Campus Partners and Challenges
Campus Partners
- Barbara A. Doll, Ph.D. PE
- NC State Facilities Division (Storm Water Management)
Challenges
- The largest challenge faced was the mass amount of invasive species growing very densely on the side of the creek.
- Second was the steep embankment where the invasive plants were growing, this made it hard to cut down and drag the cut plants out of the creek basin.
Sustainability History
Environmental
- The Rocky Branch Creek project has bettered the creek environment as more work has been put in.
- Restoring native species and removing invasive species will benefit the environment drastically.
Social
- Dr. Doll worked with her team to push NC State University to value Rocky Branch Creek and to help preserve it.
- The restoration team also had to write many grants to gain the funding for the three phase restoration
Economical
- From the start of the Rocky Branch Creek project until 2010, a total of $6,800,000 were spent.
- More money has gone into the creek yearly for its up keep and to correct the damages the habitat has faced.
- Without the removal of invasive species and restoration of native species, substantial amounts of money will continue to be spent on the creek.
